Ingredients

  • 1 bag of frozen pre-cooked fries (McCain recommended)
  • 1 air fryer (if you like them crispy, avoid off-brands)
  • Note: the method may vary with different cooking tools; only the air fryer method is covered here.

Steps

Open the fries

  1. When opening a large bag of pre-cooked fries, keep the opening small; this greatly reduces frost forming on the fries during long storage.

Preheat the air fryer

  1. Plug it in and preheat at 200℃ for 5 minutes.
  2. Preheating ensures the basket is already at cooking temperature when the food goes in.
  3. Note: take the fries out of the freezer only after preheating; don't let them soften before frying.

Fry

  1. Put the fries into the air fryer, 200℃ for 20 minutes.
  2. When taking out the fries, note that pre-cooked fries are already oiled, so use tongs to handle them.
  3. At 5-10 minutes, pull out the basket and shake it so the fries heat evenly and don't stick together.

Crisping (optional)

  1. At 10-15 minutes, pull out the basket and spray a layer of oil over about 2/3 of the surface of the now-dry fries.

Remove & plate

  1. If you like crispy fries, shake the basket around (dance with it!) after taking it out so air passes over the fries, then plate; if you like them soft, plate directly. Even better with dipping sauces or drizzled sauce.

Notes

French fries are crispy outside and soft inside, golden and salty, a hugely popular fast-food snack. Potatoes provide carbohydrates and fiber, but fried or air-fried they are fairly high in calories. With pre-cooked fries and an air fryer, it is simple and beginners can do it easily. From preheating to serving it takes about 25 minutes.

Quantities:

  • As a main dish, 400 g per person per meal (pre-cooked weight)
  • As a snack, 1/4 of the main-dish amount ± 50 g per person per meal

Using the above, calculate the amount you need (based on, among other things, your usual appetite, mood and pre-meal exercise).

  • Ketchup, mayonnaise, honey mustard, garlic soy sauce... the path to leveling up your fries lies in exploring sauces and sauce combinations.
